The Shanghai Government Scholarship is a scholarship program offered by the Shanghai Municipal Government to international students who are studying at East China Normal University (ECNU). The scholarship is intended to support and encourage international students to study in Shanghai and contribute to the city’s cultural and intellectual diversity.
To be eligible for the Shanghai Government Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China.
- Be in good health and have no criminal record.
- Be admitted to a full-time degree program at ECNU.
- Meet the language requirements of the program for which they are applying.
The scholarship pays for the student’s tuition, housing, and living costs for the whole program. It is a competitive scholarship that is given to students who have done well in school and have the potential to add to the intellectual and cultural life of ECNU and Shanghai.
To apply for the Shanghai Government Scholarship, students must fill out the scholarship application form and send it to the International Students Office at ECNU along with all the required documents. Depending on the program, the deadline to send in an application is usually in April or May.

Description: Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship was established in 2006 with the aims to enhance the development of international student education in Shanghai and encourage more and more outstanding international students and scholars to ECNU.
1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health.
2) Education background and age limit:
For the pre-college program, applicants must have a high school diploma and be younger than 23.
Those who want to get a bachelor’s degree must have a high school diploma and be younger than 25.
Those who want to get a master’s degree must already have a bachelor’s degree and be younger than 35.
Those who want to get a doctoral degree must have a master’s degree and be younger than 40.
3) Students that have won the Chinese Government Scholarship or any scholarship offered by other organizations are not entitled to apply SGS.
